REVIEW, REGROUP & REBUILD.
With a disrupted home fixture due to some rain on Friday night, the council only allowed us to play 3 out of 6 grades being Colt’s, 2’s and 1’s.
With the day starting off with colties – it was looking good from the outset with the redmen blowing out to a 12-0 lead early in the piece, before the hangovers kicked in and we went from a dominant team to a team where nobody could catch a cold or make a tackle. St Pats went on and won in a scrappy affair 36-26. It has since been revealed that a team member scheduled his 21st on the Friday night hence the ghost like figures running around on Saturday.
We then moved on to 2’s where we saw our injury depleted team battle hard for the first 20 mins or so before St Pats gained momentum and ran over the top of us, eventuating in a 50-7 victory.
3.15 saw the battle of all battles – facing up with a severely injury depleted team against last years premiers who we have not beaten in first grade in a number of years. This game was a tussle the whole way along with only one point separating the two teams until the final minute, when we gained some momentum and seeing Michael Dempsey crash over for a try to help seal 4 try bonus point victory 27-19 ! This game was a fantastic example of the hard work and dedication being shown by the club, and proves that we are a force to be reckoned with for the rest of the year.
In other news – with State of Origin this Wednesday night being played in Sydney, the coaches of all grades are currently discussing all possible options for training this week. Please stay tuned to all forms of social media for the final word on training.

Well the 2015 season is officially underway and round 1 took us to our sacred home patch of Ryde International Oval. It was a beautiful morning with the sun shining and the pitch looking the best it ever has. It was a great start to the day to see 5th Grade (otherwise known as elevensies) warming up – or what they call warming up by throwing a bit of banter around and the odd walk breaking into a trot. But we were all fooled. Mosman, at first glance looked the younger and faster team, but the experience of the elevensies kicked in and they put on a masterclass to notch their first win for the season.
4th grade had a tough day at the office with Mossy getting the early jump with a few quick tries, which forced our boys to play catch up for the rest of the day. 3rd grade had a strong tussle and unfortunately went down in a close one. Colties had another classic running rugby exhibition against (as Palmer refers to them as The Mosman Crumble). Our boys didn’t help their causes by plenty of handling errors along with some injuries to key players which left us a little under strength and ended up on the wrong side of the score line.
2nd grade were ready for what was written as a tight battle, bouncing back from a sloppy display in the trial to show a spirited and hard fought match. As was the same in 1st grade, our boys defended for the majority of the game and were unlucky not to come away with the win. To 1st grade, and we saw what was a great build up for many years and was going to be a fantastic display of rugby coming off the trials with some new faces and retaining many combinations built from last year. As was the same in 2nd grade, we defended for what seemed an eternity with some heavy collisions. Mosman ended up victors 4 tries to 3.
There is a fantastic platform being built for this season, with perhaps not quite enough rugby under our belts for round 1, but looking forward to round 2 this coming weekend against Brothers. Make sure everyone gets down to training this Wednesday night.
