We are sad to report the sudden passing of Keith Arcus.
Keith Arcus was a regular sideline supporters of the Old Ignatians Rugby Club during the 1990s and 2000s. Keith was a great guy, a true gentleman and his big permanent smile and positive demeanor will be greatly missed.
Out thoughts and prayers go out to his children Steve, Jo & Alex, grandchildren and the extended Arcus family.

REVIEW, REGROUP & REBUILD.
With a disrupted home fixture due to some rain on Friday night, the council only allowed us to play 3 out of 6 grades being Colt’s, 2’s and 1’s.
With the day starting off with colties – it was looking good from the outset with the redmen blowing out to a 12-0 lead early in the piece, before the hangovers kicked in and we went from a dominant team to a team where nobody could catch a cold or make a tackle. St Pats went on and won in a scrappy affair 36-26. It has since been revealed that a team member scheduled his 21st on the Friday night hence the ghost like figures running around on Saturday.
We then moved on to 2’s where we saw our injury depleted team battle hard for the first 20 mins or so before St Pats gained momentum and ran over the top of us, eventuating in a 50-7 victory.
3.15 saw the battle of all battles – facing up with a severely injury depleted team against last years premiers who we have not beaten in first grade in a number of years. This game was a tussle the whole way along with only one point separating the two teams until the final minute, when we gained some momentum and seeing Michael Dempsey crash over for a try to help seal 4 try bonus point victory 27-19 ! This game was a fantastic example of the hard work and dedication being shown by the club, and proves that we are a force to be reckoned with for the rest of the year.
In other news – with State of Origin this Wednesday night being played in Sydney, the coaches of all grades are currently discussing all possible options for training this week. Please stay tuned to all forms of social media for the final word on training.

The start of the season is upon us. The Saturday just gone saw the Redmen up against the Mosman Whales, or as Mickey Palmer likes to refer to them as “The Mosman Crumble” (reference to the colts GF demolishing last year!!) The weather wasn’t so great with a few scuds rolling through early, however the precipitation managed to stay away come game time. We saw a scrappy, but hard fought colts match where our boys dominated the majority of the match, with a few suspect calls going against us. Colts definitely have a great platform working towards another GF win this year.
We then moved into the grade trials where 3’s and 2’s had a combined effort for 60mins where we came out on top and saw some great running rugby. Then 2’s had there own 30min trial bolstered by a few 1st graders towards the end of the period. Mosman were a little too strong (fitness being the key) and scored a few tries late to steal a victory. Then came the grudge match with a fast paced, heavy hitting 30min trial with 1st grade. Our boys had some great attacking, front foot ball off the basis of a great scrum and building pressure to score a couple of team tries. We also spent a lot of time in defense, with very little able to break the gain line.
All in all, the results were fantastic, especially with the very limited team preparation and many last minute withdrawals. We have a great foundation to build into this year and secure a high number of wins and gran final appearances. Everyone please get down to training at RYDE International this week to build into the trail vs Hunters Hill this coming weekend.
Up The Reddies!!
